Mike Holmes has over twenty-five years experience of working in many different sectors, applying simple but powerful statistical techniques to data in the field of quality improvement. His key strength is an ability to convey performance management concepts in simple, pragmatic language with an enthusiasm that front line managers and staff respond to and embrace

Since 2007, Mike has been running Do-Able Solutions carrying out a wide range of consultancy work for many clients. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society for more than 25 years and has been approached to lecture at the annual conference of the European Network of Business and Industrial Statisticians

He joined British Rail on graduating - with BSc(Hons) First Class in Applied Statistics & Computing - in the 1980s and developed a pioneering micro-computer based programme for collecting, storing, analysing and reporting data concerning the punctuality and reliability of trains. He has been involved in similar software for all of his subsequent career. His railway work saw him using his statistical skills engaged in a wide spectrum of projects from "defective freight wagons" to "drivers working overtime" with resultant improvements in performance.

At privatisation, Mike joined Sema Group where he spent two happy years as their expert in train punctuality/reliability performance management before moving on the Univeral Improvement Company in January 2000.

During his time with the UIC, Mike carried out statistical work for a number of companies in the UK and elsewhere as well as a wide range of consultancy assignments in housing, health, local government and other sectors. Mike's time with the UIC was divided between development/support of statistical software and training and consultancy work.

Mike is life long rail enthusiast, a birdwatcher and takes a fairly keen interest in most sports. He is married, to Alyson, with two children, Beth and Jamie, and lives in Nantwich in South Cheshire. Mike is the blurred one in the picture below!
